Underneath the surface it is all working hardware. Goodyear welt construction stitches the upper to the sole, so a cobbler can rebuild it years from now. The interior is fully lined in supple glove leather, a steel shank braces the arch, and the cork-bed midsole settles into your footprint with wear. Reinforced eyelets take the strain of daily lacing, the laces themselves are a long-lasting Kevlar blend, and studded rubber outsoles carry the tread. Shock-absorbing antimicrobial insoles finish the inside. The waxed nap dresses down as easily as it dresses up: jeans on a weekend, plain trousers at the office. Let the colour mottle — that is the finish doing its job.
